Dear Hosting Master clients
Here, you will find current technical problems IF they might affect your service:
Hosting8 2025-12-25
Last night, maybe yesterday but discovered last night at 1am, Hosting8 had a system configuration failure, much like a windows system crash.
Our emergency, on call tech, was in the hospital with his mother who had, had a stroke yesterday and he was unavailable to try and repair the virtual hard drive. After 45 minutes on the phone, and pictures, it was determined that the wise choice was to restore the most recent major crash backup, a complete system copy, our fail safe, taken on August 9th 2025.
Once verified that the restoration copy functioned, it was then deemed necessary to run a system wide SSL retrieval, which appears to have functioned correctly across all domains that existed in August at the time of the backup copy. And the re-reinstatement of the most recent IP blacklist, which also functioned correctly.
What you are experiencing and what to do?
OPEN YOUR EMAIL PROGRAM: (Likely Thunderbird or Outlook) And depending on your email retention level (mine for example is 30 days) you are now going to get duplicate copies of email you have already received PRIOR TO Aug 9th. LET THIS COME IN so the email program and the server can re-align. Once this email has come in, you may click the date column and all the duplicates will hide down on the list and all the new email will show up at the top.
ALTERNATELY, after the email comes in, you may sort by UN-opened email, and delete new messages OLDER THAN Aug 9th, and then sort by date. No it is not possible for me to correct this on the server, the email program’s retention setting is what is calling in copies of old email.
If your email program was left open, check to see if it has downloaded copies, if not, you will need to close, re-open and wait for the downloading to complete before sorting the column. If it’s downloading now, let it, don’t close until it’s complete.
Will there be any email lose? I do not expect any email lose, as when a server goes down, for less than 24 hours, email waits delivery on the sending server and tries again every 4-6 hours until it’s delivered. So you may receive something from yesterday arriving late today but otherwise, once the email settles, it should be normal again.
WHAT IF MY EMAIL PROGRAM REPORTS A BAD PASSWORD? You will have to call me to change your password on the server. This will happen IF I’ve changed your password since August 9th, 2025 as it will have changed back.
NONE EMAIL QUESTION: What if I’ve made changes to my website content or design???
CALL ME! We have an automated backup that runs nightly, we will have a Dec 22nd – 23rd copy of your site and can restore to that day!
Trust me, I’m sorry for any inconvenience, I was up until 5am trying to avoid “for you, my client” all inconveniences that I could.
Barry,
